This is my absolute favorite storybook Bible for children. Get it, buy it, share it. Sally Lloyd Jones is such an incredible writer and connects all the stories of the Bible to the coming of Christ (“every story whispers His name…”). There are three stories in this storybook Bible specifically about Christmas: “He’s here!”, “The Light of the Whole World”, and “The King of all Kings.” I cannot recommend it highly enough.
Another beautiful story from Sally Lloyd Jones (author of the Jesus Storybook Bible), Illustrated by Alison Jay. It tells the story of Jesus’ birth from the perspective of the animals- how all creation joined in the “song of the stars”, telling the great news that Jesus was born.
This is the story about a little drummer boy that appears on the doorstep of a little boy. And when it is still and quiet, the drummer boy plays and warms the child’s heart. But one day the drummer boy is accidentally knocked into the trash, sending him on a journey he never imagined. Beautiful illustrations and touching story. I love this book!
This traditional folktale tells the tale of three trees and their connection to the life of Christ. Beautiful illustrations and touching tale. This story is one of our favorites to read at Christmas and Easter.
This alphabet book follows the letters of the alphabet to tell the story of the nativity. Beautiful illustrations!
Mama’s answer only leads to more questions like “Is God more important than Santa?” So she and Little Cub head off on a polar expedition to find God and to see how he gave them Christmas. This enchanting tale provides the perfect opportunity to help young children celebrate the true meaning of Christmas and to discover how very much God loves them. **Note: this book does mention Santa Claus
This book is a lovely picture book that will paint a simple picture of how Jesus came to be for young children. It is extremely easy to understand for all ages, and the illustrations, depicting scenes of animals in the snow, and inside the warmth of the stable, will capture the hearts of parents, as well as their children.
This sweet retelling of the Nativity, told in cumulative rhyme, captures the excitement and anticipation of those who witnessed the birth of the Christ Child — from Mary and Joseph to the barn cats and mice. One of our favorites!
This is a sweet rhyming (and counting) story in which a group of animals recounts the events surrounding Jesus’ birth in the manger, and the parts some of their ancestors played in it.
In lyrical verses and luminous illustrations, this is a beautiful retelling of the Nativity story. In this version, the Wise Men show up at the stable when Jesus is born.
This retelling of an old Eastern European tale is about a woman who is so busy focusing on the little things that she hardly notices the miraculous events going on around her. This touching Christmas story shows that the more you give away in love, the more you will receive. FYI, the book does talk about Babushka bringing a gift of “ginger cordial”. My research on ginger cordial shows it to be an old fashioned immunity booster; in this case it may or may not contain alcohol.
This is an old English Christmas carol telling the story of Christ’s birth from the perspective of the animals. Cute illustrations and fun rhyming for kids.
A classic Christmas picture book, One Wintry Night tells the story of a mountain boy who is injured in a snowstorm and seeks refuge in a cabin. While he waits out the storm, the woman who lives there tells him the Christmas story. In a magnificent blend of a contemporary setting with the history of God’s redeeming love, Ruth Graham created a wonderful and unique version of the Christmas story.
This is a very sweet fictional tale about lamb named Joshua with a crippled leg that felt left out because he couldn’t run and play like the other lambs. But God had a very special plan for Joshua’s life, as He does for all who feel alone.
Very cute story about a wombat who has always wanted to be in the Nativity play and is finally old enough to audition. Fun story with cute illustrations.
Sweet story telling the birth of Jesus from the perspective of the animals that lived in the stable. Cute story, fun read.
In this Berenstain Bears classic, Brother and Sister Bear can’t wait for Christmas and all the presents they’ll open. But during the Christmas Eve pageant, something special happens! The Bear cubs learn a very valuable lesson about the joy of giving to others.
All the animals get in on the fun when Christ is born. I love that it’s realistic and shows how chaotic it probably was, rather than just presenting the typical serene and quiet nativity scene.
The rich acrylic paintings of best-selling author and artist Carol Heyer are now presented in board book form, along with a simplified retelling of the biblical story of the Nativity. Here, young readers will be introduced to the events surrounding the birth of Jesus, including the journey to Bethlehem, the shepherds in the field, and the appearance of the Wise Men.
A book celebrating all the great traditions of the Christmas season and explaining that while all those things are great, the BEST thing about Christmas is JESUS!
This is a very sweet story about giving and sharing- not just the sharing of cookies, but the story and message of Christ. It also intertwines the origin of Christmas cookies. Beautiful illustrations and story about sharing.
Sweet story telling the birth of Christ from the perspective of the birds in Bethlehem. Nice illustrations and a fun read/perspective.
This sweet story by Jeannine Q. Norris and beautifully illustrated by Tim Ladwig tells the story of Jesus’ birth from Mary’s perspective. “Tomorrow you will be king, but tonight you are my baby…”
This is an alphabet book with very warm, colorful illustrations that finds God’s blessings in the various wintertime traditions.
This book comes from the Classic 1960’s movie “A Charlie Brown Christmas”. Christmas is almost here, which means ice-skating, Christmas carols, and sparkly lights everywhere—even on Snoopy’s doghouse! Everyone is enjoying the holiday celebrations except Charlie Brown. Can the Peanuts gang help Charlie Brown discover the true meaning of Christmas? **Note, this book does mention Santa Claus.
The books below are out of print, but worth the find!
